Packersfield established nine school districts in 1791 and raised 270 pounds with which to build them. The early schoolhouses were frame buildings completed sometime around 1795. They were replaced with brick ones in about 1820. This is the only original brick schoolhouse that still from that period. It was sold by the town in February 1898.  It has been in private hands since then and serves today as the caretaker’s cottage at the Schoolhouse Farm.
